Born and raised in North Vancouver, Gina Alpen decided to pursue her professional dance career at Simon Fraser University in the contemporary dance progam and has since formed the Con8 Collective with fellow student Charlotte Newman.
Introduced to Ukrainian dancing at a young age she developed a passion for character dancing and in the summer of 2013, traveled with the Dovbush Dancers to Ukraine to participate in a two week intensive with the national dance ensemble of the Ukraine, Virsky.
Gina's most recent professional credit was in the capacity as an apprentice under Tara Cheyenne Friedenburg Performance for the process and performance of Porno Death Cult.
Over the past 4 years, Gina has had the privilege to study and perform works by Judith Gary, Rob Kitsos, 605 Collective, Seana Elton, Desiree Dunbar, Vanessa Goodman and Andrea Nann among others.
Charlotte, originally from Seattle, moved to Vancouver to begin her studies in dance at Simon Fraser University. Over the past four years, Charlotte has had the chance to work with such amazing artists as Judith Garay, Rob Kitsos, Tiffany Tregarthen, and Erika Mitsuhashi, Micheal Kong, among others. Her studies at SFU have introduced her to an amazing and talented circle of peers, and the greater Vancouver dance community.
While training in dance, Charlotte has also had the chance to step into the roll of artistic director/producer, helping a handful of amazing SFU performances come together.
Charlotte is currently a Board member with Mascall Dance, and interning with The Dance Centre. She will be graduating with a BFA in Contemporary Dance in June of 2014, and is excited to continue dancing and learning.
